IT ALL STARTED
WITH
A boy, a girl, five failed attempts at a date,
and one very decisive pandemic.
Nobody plans to build a catering company during a global lockdown. Nobody plans to fall in love over a shared pot of something wonderful while the world argues about sourdough starter. And yet — here we are. Bite Me wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born in a kitchen, in chaos, fuelled by coffee, creativity, and the kind of stubbornness only two chefs in love can produce.
five tries,
Burgundy, Covid,
and Tankwa."
Once upon a time, a boy met a girl in the most serendipitous way. R70 made their paths cross — and after 5 tries, he finally got a date. We're not saying persistence is a superpower, but evidence is mounting.
Then Covid arrived and did what Covid does — threw two chefs into the same kitchen with nowhere to go and too much time to cook. Burgundy brought them together. The rest, as they say, is seasoning.
With the same degree in cooking behind them and completely opposite tastes in front of them, they discovered something extraordinary: their culinary styles weren't just different — they were complementary. Like salt and pepper. Or braai and salad. Or Pretoria and Cape Town.
The details of exactly how R70 made their paths cross remain classified. What we know is: it worked, it took five tries, and Kendra eventually said yes. Arno claims this is proof he never gives up. Kendra says she just wore him down. Both are probably right.
Burgundy brought them together in a way nobody planned. With the world on pause, two chefs with the same qualification and wildly different styles found themselves communicating the only way that made sense — through food. One leaned into bold traditional technique. The other brought creativity, sass, and a total disregard for convention. Magic happened.
On a work function in the stunning Tankwa Karoo National Park, surrounded by nothing but sky and silence and a whole lot of challenges, they found their true selves. And each other. Every obstacle made them stronger. Every meal they produced together confirmed what the vast empty Karoo already knew: these two belonged in a kitchen. Together. Permanently.
Armed with Kendra's film industry chops and culinary creativity, Arno's 5-star game lodge pedigree and braai mastery, and enough shared stubbornness to move a mountain, Bite Me Catering took its first bite. Film sets. Private dining. Corporate dos. Meals to your door. Wherever food needed to be extraordinary — and occasionally accompanied by an inappropriate joke — they showed up.
"Savour the flavour, laugh at the chaos,
and always, always bite back for more."
